The DUI Prevention Unit will continue to provide cost-free DUI Prevention awareness and training to all Cook County high school driver education students during the Spring, Summer, and Autumn seasons of the school year.
In addition to DUI education, the Unit will also address the latest threat to keeping roadways safe, namely texting while driving. The Unit’s aim is to create long term awareness in each student driver, during and beyond high school, of the consequences of a DUI or texting while driving conviction. Even worse, the life threatening realities caused by vehicular accidents, can be avoided due to the timely training imparted by the Unit during school visits. Although the majority of driver education students will not drink and drive, the Unit has designed each component to introduce actual practices involved in the DUI process, as well as the legal ramifications of DUI and texting while driving arrests and convictions.
The Safe Driving Program contains four components designed to educate all participating student drivers:
1. Impaired driving golf cart course
2. Sobriety testing
3. DUI Prevention training in awareness and education, and consequences of DUI conviction
4. Fifteen minute film depicting worst case scenarios of DUI
