The Civil Services Division of Court Services is the chief enforcement arm for the Circuit Court of Cook County and is responsible for the processing, service and enforcement of court orders. The Division is separated into three (3) operational units: Civil Process & Levy Unit, Warrant & Eviction Unit, and Clerical Processing Unit
The Illinois Code of Civil Procedure requires that the Sheriff dedicate sworn personnel to the service of process. The Civil Process Unit services all areas of Cook County and is responsible for the disposition of approximately 400,000 legal documents filed annually with the Sheriff’s Department. The Warrant and Eviction Unit as well as the Levy Unit enforce all orders received from the Circuit Court of Cook County. The Levy Unit is responsible for the seizure and disposal of personal property pursuant to court order. The Eviction Unit is responsible for the removal of persons unlawfully in possession of real property pursuant to an Order for Possession. The Warrant Unit is responsible for the location and apprehension of subjects pursuant to civil warrants and body attachments. The Civil Division is responsible for enforcing over 20,000 court orders per year.
