Sheriff's Work Alternative Program - S.W.A.P.

Home > Departments > Court Services Department > S.W.A.P.

S.W.A.PThe Sheriff's Work Alternative Program (SWAP) was designed to help reduce jail overcrowding by providing the Courts with a sentencing alternative to incarceration in the County Jail. SWAP also operates a similar program in the juvenile court system. Essentially, SWAP gives judges a vehicle to sentence non-violent misdemeanants and traffic offenders to supervised manual labor in lieu of jail time. SWAP crews provide municipalities, government agencies and not-for-profit organizations with a reliable source of free manual labor. SWAP offenders perform a wide variety of work and are supervised by sworn officers. The program is operational seven days a week.
