Management Information Systems Department is responsible for operations
and maintenance of all computer systems used throughout the Department of
Corrections. The M.I.S. team conducts formal training of all software applications
used by the department including the specialized inmate tracking system
software, CIMIS.
CIMIS is the application software that many correctional institutions
use to track inmate populations. The acronym CIMIS is defined as Correctional
Institution Management Information System. It was designed by the members
of the Illinois Criminal Justice
Information Authority, and has been utilized by Cook County since September
1992. CIMIS is a menu driven application, that enables the institution,
at intake, to input detainee data as oral interviews
are conducted. It records housing assignments, commissary purchases, medical
data, and trust transactions.
