About the program

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office is a nationally recognized leader in providing innovative programs in the fields of law enforcement and corrections, focused on challenging the status quo through a filter of social justice.

The CCSO’s Summer Fellowship Program gives practical experience in research, analytics and policy to students who are passionate about Mental Health Research and Policy, Social Service Issues including Unjust Incarceration, Human Trafficking, Child Welfare, Evictions, and Policing/Crime Policy.

Fellowships will be located in different divisions of the office. Transportation via shuttle to the jail will be available. Participants will be partnered with subject matter experts with exposure to real-time change initiatives and implementation as well as quantitative and qualitative research.

The Fellowship Program will be 10 weeks long, with fellows expected to work 40 hours a week. Fellows will be expected to complete a research project based on data analysis and fundamental concepts of public policy assessment and evaluation.


Graduate fellows will be compensated $6,000 for the summer. Undergraduate fellows will be compensated $4,500 for the summer.


Applications are due February 24, 2017. Applicants must be able to pass a background check and pre-employment screening process.
