Wednesday, July 10, 2013 —A Dolton woman has been charged with animal cruelty after Cook County Sheriff’s Police Animal Crimes Unit found an emaciated dog outside the home where she lived, Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced today.

Animal Crimes Unit officers went to the 15400 block of East End Avenue in Dolton about 9:45 a.m. today acting on a tip of suspected animal neglect.

Abused Dog 1

They found eight pit bull mix dogs outside, some in pens, some in crates and others chained to a fence. One female dog was emaciated. Seven others were in fair condition.
The dogs did not have food or clean drinking water.

There was no indication of dog fighting at the location.

Amanda Wise, 29, who lived at that address, was charged with one count of animal cruelty and eight counts of owner’s duties. She was also charged with obstructing a peace officer, for initially giving officers a fake name. She also had an outstanding traffic warrant.

South Suburban Humane Society took custody of the dogs and they were taken to a veterinarian for treatment.

Abused Dog 2Wise is scheduled to appear in bond court tomorrow (Thursday) at the Markham Courthouse.

Sheriff Dart reminds the public that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by the government in a court of law.
