Thursday, August 22, 2013 —Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced today that a Grand Junction, Colo., man has been charged with several felonies after an investigation found he crossed state lines to engage in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl he met through an online video game.

Christopher PlouffeChristopher Plouffe, 31, appeared today at the George N. Leighton Criminal Court Building where his bond was set at $1 million.

According to an investigation by Cook County Sheriff’s Police and the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force, Plouffe started chatting with the girl in late 2011 after meeting her through the video game. Their conversations became sexual in nature.

In February 2012, Plouffe, who lived in Alabama at the time, drove to Chicago and had sex with the teen. The girl’s family notified police after they learned about what had happened.

Plouffe was arrested in Grand Junction on Aug. 6. Members of the Sheriff’s Central Warrant Unit brought him back to Cook County on Wednesday after Plouffe waived extradition in Colorado.

He’s been charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse, indecent solicitation of a child, solicitation to meet a child, grooming, and traveling to meet a minor.

Plouffe’s next court date is scheduled for Sept.11 at the George N. Leighton Criminal Court Building.

Sheriff Dart reminds the public that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by the government in a court of law.
