Tuesday, May 11, 2010— A Harvey man is free on bond after he was arrested for making vulgar threats against the child he was convicted of molesting nine years ago, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced on Tuesday.

Michael BeaversMichael Beavers, 29, is charged with felony telephone harassment. He appeared in Markham bond court today, where a judge set his bond at $5,000. Beavers posted the necessary $500 cash for his bond and is now free, awaiting trial.

In 2001, Beavers was convicted in Lake County, Ind. of sexual battery for molesting a three-year-old female relative. He was sentenced to 18 months in an Indiana prison, then served the remaining year of his sentence on probation.
Since then, Beavers has lived in Harvey and has been repeatedly arrested for assorted violent offenses, including domestic battery causing bodily injury, assault and multiple instances of failing to properly register as a sex offender. He is required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

On May 3, he called the home of his victim, in unincorporated Bloom Township, threatening to molest her “like I did before.” He also threatened to sexually assault the victim’s mother. He then graphically described some of the sexual acts he was accused of carrying out on the victim in 2001, threatening to force the child to perform those same acts “like she did before.”

Sheriff’s detectives tracked phone records and Beavers’ prior criminal case files before arresting him without incident Friday night at his home in the 000 (cq) block of East 154th Street in Harvey.

His next court date is set for May 26 in Markham.
