Thursday, April 2, 2015An investigation by the Cook County Sheriff’s Central Warrant Unit and the Federal Bureau of Investigation led to the apprehension of a man sentenced for a drug charge while he was a fugitive from justice, Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced today.

Mark DoughertyMark Dougherty, 57, was arrested by Chicago Police in February 2011 after he was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and other drugs at his residence in the 6700 block of North Clark Street. He stopped coming to court in May of 2012.

On March 24, 2015, a Cook County judge sentenced Dougherty to 20 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for methamphetamine delivery. Dougherty was not present in court.

The Sheriff’s Central Warrant Unit found that Dougherty may be living in the Minneapolis–St. Paul area. FBI agents took Dougherty into custody on Tuesday, March 31 after locating him at a Minneapolis address that Cook County Sheriff’s investigators provided.

Dougherty is currently in custody at Hennepin County Jail in Minneapolis. His return to Illinois is pending an extradition hearing.
