Friday, August 20, 2010— A Chicago man is in custody for human trafficking related offenses after prostituting three women for his own profit, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced Friday.

Troy BonaparteTroy Bonaparte, 45, of the 8000 block of South Ridgeland in Chicago, was charged Thursday with one count of involuntary servitude, a Class X felony; one felony count of trafficking of persons for labor or services; one count of unlawful restraint; one count of pandering; one count of possession of a controlled substance – heroin; and one count of possession of a controlled substance – cocaine.

The Cook County Sheriff’ Police Vice Unit arrested Bonaparte after responding to a suspicious ad posted on the Escorts section of the website  The ad contained solicitations such as “Sexy Crystal is here to please and pamper you”, “Call me before 1 a.m. and get your discount”, and “Girlfriend experience”.

After responding to the ad, police were directed to an Elk Grove Village motel, where they discovered Bonaparte was operating a prostitution ring through coercion.  During the course of the investigation detectives determined there were three women under Bonaparte’s control – two in the same motel, another in a nearby facility.  The victims were aged 19, 24, and 30.  Some of the women had been forced to work for Bonaparte for months, while others were most recent victims.

Bonaparte recruited his victims off the streets – one was homeless at the time.  Two of the women are from out of state, one is from the Chicago area.  Bonaparte controlled the victims and forced them to prostitute through the threat of physical violence.

At the time of his arrest, Bonaparte was out on bond from a June 24th charge of soliciting for a prostitute.  On that occasion, Bonaparte tried to recruit an undercover officer on Mannheim Rd. to work for him as a prostitute.

Bonaparte has been arrested fifty-five times previously, and has nine convictions for offenses including pimping, manufacture and delivery of cocaine, possession of a stolen vehicle, and theft.

This is the second time this year the Sheriff’s Vice Unit has charged someone for human trafficking.  Sheriff Dart thanked the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Human Trafficking Unit for their assistance in the case.  The victims are currently in a safe location provided by the Sheriff’s Department of Women’s Justice Services.

Bonaparte is set to appear in bond court at 26th & California later today.
