$1,000,000 BOND FOR MAN CHARGED WITH BREAKING INTO EX-GIRLFRIEND’S HOME
Saturday, August 14, 2010— Bond has been set at $1,000,000 for a Palatine man accused of threatening to kill his ex-girlfriend, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced Saturday.
Oswaldo Ponce Jr., 46, of the 1500 block of Norway Lane in Palatine, has been charged with home invasion, after breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s Elk Grove Village apartment.
The victim called police after Ponce broke through the glass of her bedroom window on Friday, while she was sleeping inside. The victim told police that Ponce jumped into the first-floor apartment and threatened her with an eight-inch knife saying, “I want to kill all of you, but I won’t because of the girl.” At the time, a juvenile and an infant were sleeping in the bedroom with the victim. After threatening the victim, Ponce left through the same window in which he entered.
When police arrived at the apartment, they found blood on the broken window where Ponce entered. While investigators were interviewing the victim, Ponce called her cell phone between 15 and 25 times. Officers listened to the conversations on speakerphone as Ponce made repeated threats to the victim’s life and to her daughter.
After speaking with the victim, detectives were able to locate Ponce at his residence and took him into custody without incident.
This isn’t the first time Ponce has terrorized the victim. In the past, Ponce has broken the victim’s windows and threatened to kill her on numerous occasions. Ponce has been arrested twenty-three times before, including charges for assault, arson and burglary. In July, he violated an order of protection entered on behalf of the victim, and spent 28 days in jail.
Bond was set on Saturday. Ponce’s next court date is Aug. 20th in Skokie.
