Friday, August 22, 2014 Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced today that his Child Protection Response Unit officers safely returned a missing 16-year-old and her 1-month-old child to the Department of Children and Family Services (IDCFS).

The children were located today in the 12700 block of South Wallace in Chicago, after members of the Child Protection Unit received information that the teenager may be staying there. Both children were recovered the same day the Child Protection Response Unit received the child protection warrant.

Both appeared to be in good health and were returned to IDCFS custody today.

The 16-year-old girl ran away on Aug. 16 from the Chicago Heights home where she resided. She left with her 1-month-old child and another 14-year-old girl. The 14-year-old girl later returned home on her own.

Since Sheriff Dart formed the unit in October 2012, the Child Protection Response Unit has located 377 children.
