NORTH SUBURBAN MAN CHARGED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS
Wednesday, December 08, 2010— Bond has been set at $200,000 for an Arlington Heights man charged with repeated sexual assaults on an underage girl, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced Thursday.
Carl Salters, 44, of the 0 – 100 block of 7th Avenue in Arlington Heights, has been charged with three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and one count of criminal sexual assault. With this arrest, Salters violated his probation on previous charges of possession of dangerous drugs and assault, and is ineligible to bond out of the Cook County Jail while awaiting trial.
Cook County Sheriff’s Office investigators first learned of the assaults on December 5th, when patrol officers responded to a simple battery call on the 0 – 100 block of 7th Avenue in Arlington Heights. When police arrived, they learned Salters tried to choke his teenage victim, and prevent her from leaving a friend’s house. As officers attempted to take Salters into custody, he became combative. During the course of the arrest, the victim told police Salters had sexually assaulted her on four occasions in July. In a later interview with the victim, she reported Salters had provided her with drugs and alcohol prior to the assaults. Salters and the victim lived in the same neighborhood, and were acquaintances.
Based on the victim’s description of Salters’ predatory methods, police believe he may have other victims. The Cook County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about Salters’ involvement with underage children, or other possible criminal acts, to call 708-865-4896 and ask to speak with a detective.
Salters’ next court date is December 30th in Rolling Meadows.
