Wednesday, December 9, 2009 — A Glenview man is jailed on $70,000 bond after being charged for a brutal assault on his 7-months pregnant girlfriend.

Dewayne Skippings, 23, of the 10400 block of North Dearlove is charged with aggravated battery to a pregnant person and domestic battery as a result of an assault that included a beating with a belt and attempted smothering with a pilllow, among other attacks. Investigators say Skippings then remained by his victim's side for more than 24 hours, including during a trip to a hospital, to ensure she didn't speak with police.

Sheriff Tom Dart praised the victim for showing courage to follow through on contacting police immediately after she was released from the hospital and able to get away from Skippings.

The assault happened on December 3rd. It began when he twisted the victim's leg during an argument. He then continued his assault by hitting her with a belt, his fists and putting a pillow over her face. Skippings was arrested and charged the following day. He is now being held at the Cook County Jail and his next court hearing is December 14th.
