MAN CHARGED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS
ON A CHILD
Sunday, August 8, 2010— Bond has been set at $150,000 for a Des Plaines man accused of sexually assaulting the child of a family friend on numerous occasions, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced Saturday.
Dinesh Ray, 60, of the 9000 block of Emerson St. in Des Plaines was charged yesterday with one felony count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and one felony count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child. Additional charges are anticipated.
On August 6th, the Des Plaines Police Department contacted Cook County Sheriff’s Police about a young teen who reported sexual abuse by a family friend on three different occasions. The victim told police investigators the assaults began eight years ago, when she was five, and continued as the victim grew older. All happened at family functions in the northwest suburbs. The victim recently told family members, who immediately contacted authorities.
During questioning by detectives, Ray admitted to molesting the victim on the three instances described. Investigators also spoke with relatives and notified DCFS about the case.
Skokie Court Judge Marguerite A. Quinn set Ray’s bond at $150,000. Judge Quinn also ordered Ray to surrender his passport and have no contact with the victim. His next court date is August 13th.
Detectives from the Streamwood Police Department and Des Plaines Police Department worked jointly with Sheriff’s Police Detectives during the course of this investigation. The Cook County Sheriff’s Office believes there may be more victims out there and is asking anyone whose children may have had contact with Ray to please contact detectives at 708-865-4700.
