Friday, October 15, 2010— Bond has been set at $250,000 for a Skokie man charged with selling cocaine and heroin from an area apartment building, Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced Friday.

Alexander NelsonAlexander Nelson, 31, of the 4900 block of Enfield in Skokie, has been charged with one count of possession of cocaine with intent to deliver, 100 – 400 grams, a Class X felony; possession of heroin; unlawful use of a weapon by a felon; possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of a defaced firearm; and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon – ammunition.

The Skokie Police Department had received numerous complaint calls about the six-unit apartment building where Nelson resided on a regular basis.  In mid-September, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office Gang Unit also received information that Nelson was dealing heroin from the apartment complex.  Nelson was a known member of the Gangster Disciples with an extensive criminal history, including a number of narcotics-related arrests.

Gang Unit detectives began surveillance of the building in September, and monitored Nelson’s activities in and out.  Officers then conducted a number of controlled undercover drug purchases from Nelson over a period of time.  On October 7th, Cook County Sheriff’s Police, along with the Skokie Police Department’s Tactical Team, executed a search warrant at Nelson’s home, and placed him under arrest.  Officers recovered 141 grams of cocaine, 1.2 grams of heroin, a semi-automatic handgun, ammunition and $11,500 in cash from Nelson’s residence.  The total street value of the drugs seized is $42,700.

Nelson’s next court date is set for October 21st in Skokie.
