WOMAN ARRESTED FOR STEALING MEDICAL RECORDS AND HARASSING PATIENTS

Wednesday, August 22, 2012 — Cook County Sheriff's Police took a woman into custody this morning at her home after she confessed to stealing multiple patient files from the Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital (ABBHH) in Hoffman Estates and using the confidential information to harass patients.
Michelle Morrison, 52, of Elk Grove Village, admitted to Sheriff's detectives in a written statement today that she had stolen copies of patent files from her former workplace, in addition to blank letterheads, envelopes, mailing labels and other miscellaneous paperwork. Between February 5, 2011 and June 25, 2012, Morrison sent six fraudulent letters to former ABBHH patients containing vulgar comments, references to confidential medical information and psychiatric treatment received by these patients. Additionally, the letters included threats to the victims of exposing sensitive mental treatment material to the patients' families, friends and co-workers.
Morrison worked at the hospital as a senior account representative from November 23, 2005 to July 28, 2010. An internal investigation at ABBHH, along with the help and hard work of the hospital's attorney Matt Walsh, was able to identify the offender.
She was taken into custody today and confessed to the crimes upon her arrest. Morrison told detectives that she committed these crimes to embarrass ABBHH for terminating her employment with them.
The Cook County State's Attorney's Office is charging Morrison with three counts of forgery. She will appear in bond court at 9:00 a.m. August 22, 2012 at Rolling Meadows Courthouse.
