Wednesday, January 13, 2010 — The third defendant charged in connection with a dog fighting ring based at a daycare home broken up by Sheriff’s Police last year entered a guilty plea today, according to the office of Sheriff Thomas J. Dart.

Charles Sutton, 42, of Maywood, received a 14-month sentence for pleading guilty to felony dog fighting.  The other two defendants in this case, Martez Anderson and Lance Webb, entered guilty pleas in December. Anderson received a two year sentence, while Webb received 18 months.

Last September, the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Animal Crimes Unit arrested  these three individuals, after their investigation found they were running a dog fighting ring from their residences.  Sutton’s wife was also operating a daycare home during the day from their residence.  She was not charged with a crime, however the daycare license was revoked by the State of Illinois.

Nine severely injured dogs were rescued from these residences at the time of the raid and turned over to the Animal Welfare League in Chicago Ridge.
