The then 16-year-old victim and then 29-year-old Mendoza were neighbors, and had mutual friends, including the victim’s brother. On January 14, 2010, Mendoza gained the victim’s confidence and they began a sexual relationship. Shortly thereafter the victim became pregnant with Mendoza’s child. The victim’s father took her to a family’s home in Texas to get her away from Mendoza, but Mendoza went to Texas and brought her back to Chicago, where he continued their relationship. The victim’s father filed a police report in July 2010, and Mendoza turned himself in. He subsequently jumped bond.
