Ortiz, a convicted felon began sexually assaulting the victim when he was 52 and she was 12, until she turned 14. He threatened to kill her if she reported the incidents. Ortiz was sentenced to 35 yrs in absentia after jumping bond. Previously Ortiz was convicted in Houston of the attempted murder of his former girlfriend after he shot her and permanently blinded her when she tried to cut off their relationship.
